The interest that Transmetano has shown since its inception in establishing positive and strong relationships with the neighboring communities to its own pipelines, is reflected in the actions taken in conjunction with the communities aimed at building a benchmark of comprehensive, sustainable, proactive and self-managing development, which contributes to improving the quality of life and peaceful coexistence of the people therein.
One of our strategic goals is "To support the socioeconomic development of the communities in the area of influence," and as such we have contributed to the sustainable integrated development of 15,000 families living in 69 villages in 12 municipalities in the area of influence, promoting their quality of life.
Our intervention model comprises four strategies: Contingency and Safety Plan, Economic Development, Social Development and Quality of Life, and Environmental Culture, which allows us to reach every community by identifying their needs and responding to them in a concerted manner and through cordial relationships. We promote the development of our rural and urban communities.
Contingency and safety plan
Its objective is to strengthen the rural and local emergency committees in the area of influence of the Sebastopol – Medellín gas pipeline, in order to improve the actions focused on preventing and addressing the risks that may affect the operation of the gas pipeline and the safety of the rural villages and hamlets. As part of this, in 2013 five workshops were held in the villages of Santa Bárbara (Rionegro), Labriegos (Guarne), Paraíso (Barbosa), El Rubí and San Jacinto (Yolombó).
This is a high-impact strategy considering that 65% of the communities are rural, distant from urban centers and with low chances of employability. Its aim is to provide alternatives for development and income generation which contribute to prosperity and improved quality of life.
The eight productive projects of 2013 listed below obey the needs of each of the villages and also the existing agricultural alternatives within each community: the replanting and modernization of beans, blackberries, tomatoes and potatoes; the commissioning of 6 mills following the study of the needs of each; progress in the cocoa and soursop transformation projects, and the strengthening of the productive units of fruit pulp and sugar cane.
During the development of these projects public-private partnerships with each of the municipalities, the Government Learning Program (SENA) and private companies were entered into.
Social development and quality of life
This is aimed at promoting the welfare and development activities that contribute to strengthening the quality of life. Among the different projects we undertook include:
- Seven health brigades in which 683 children between 4 and 14 years were treated.
- Development of partnerships with municipalities and communities to repair local roads that we both impact and constantly transit.
- Support for flooding victims through the supply of materials to rebuild housing in the municipality of Yolombó.
- Initiation of a diagnostic process for the implementation of the Young + Entrepreneurs project with input and advice from the Promigas Foundation in 5 schools in northeastern Antioquia. Additionally, the development of training activities covering teamwork, leadership and the "parents school", encouraging good practices and contributing to the educational processes of the schools in the area of influence of the gas pipeline.
Its purpose is to sensitize communities on environmental protection through programs that contribute to the sustainable development of the region, and to involve the community in the implementing of the environmental management plan of the gas pipelines. Among the environmental projects under development are reforestation in the El Respiro farm, training activities in soil management and the rational use of resources.
